01 / Who buys
Six kinds of Visakhapatnam organization that need testing
Six kinds of organization in the city have a reason to test. Software and IT-enabled services firms work from the IT parks around Rushikonda and Madhurawada; the port, with the shipping, freight and warehousing trade around it, serves a wide hinterland; shipbuilding, a large integrated steel plant and the pharma manufacturing estates around Parawada make it an industrial city too; and the city has drawn announcements of data-center investment in recent years. These lines describe the local economy in general terms; none of the organizations they mention is named as a BERRY9 client.
Software and IT-enabled services firms
Development shops, product teams and back-office service providers in the IT parks often work for clients elsewhere in India or abroad. Those clients write security terms into their contracts, and a dated test report of the delivery network or of the application being built is a common way to meet them.
Data-center, hosting and managed-service suppliers
Firms that rent racks, run virtual servers, resell cloud capacity or manage other companies' systems keep every customer's data behind one set of controls. Their customers, and those customers' auditors (for ISO 27001 or SOC 2), often ask how the controls were tested.
Port, shipping and logistics operators
Terminal operators, shipping agents, freight forwarders, customs brokers, container freight stations and warehouse companies exchange bookings, manifests and release orders with partners all day long. Each portal and message link between them is a door someone outside can try.
Shipbuilding, steel and heavy engineering
Large plants run engineering drawings, procurement, maintenance and production planning on systems that grew over decades. Their office networks, vendor portals and the boundary with plant systems are where a test usually starts.
Pharma manufacturers
Bulk-drug and formulation plants keep batch records, quality data and supplier exchanges that regulators and export customers expect to be intact. A test looks at who can reach those systems from the office network and from outside.
Universities, colleges and public bodies
Institutions hold student records, run admission and examination systems and depend on vendor platforms. Some of them, and some public bodies, work under rules that decide which kind of auditor they may hire, which the government and education section on this page covers.
The sections that follow give each group these specifics: what gets tested, what the report contains and what it costs.
02 / Hosting and data centers
Testing a hosting or data-center supplier
A supplier that runs servers for other companies has two kinds of risk: the flaws any business has, and the ones that let one customer reach another. A test of such a platform is organized by layer, from the portal customers sign in to down to the management network your engineers use.
| Layer | What the test looks at | Service page |
|---|---|---|
| Customer portal and billing | Whether one customer can see, change or pay for another customer's servers, tickets, invoices or backups, and whether reseller and staff roles stay inside their limits. | Web application testing |
| Provisioning and automation APIs | The calls that create, resize and delete machines: who may make them, with which token, and what happens when a request names a server the caller does not own. | API security testing |
| Management plane | Virtualization consoles, out-of-band server management, jump hosts and the network that carries them, which should be unreachable from customer segments and from the internet. | Network penetration testing |
| Separation between customers | Firewall rules, VLANs and routing between tenant networks, checked from inside one tenant's segment to see what else answers. | Network penetration testing |
| Staff identity | The Windows domain, VPN and admin accounts your engineers use, since a stolen staff login often reaches more than any customer bug. | Active Directory testing |
| Public cloud accounts | For suppliers that resell or build on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud: identities, storage, network rules and secrets in the accounts you control. | Cloud security assessment |
Only systems you own or operate can go into the scope. Servers that a colocation customer owns, or a customer's own virtual machines, need that customer's written permission before anyone tests them, so the scope is drawn at the line between your platform and theirs.
A supplier that is preparing for a customer's audit, or answering a questionnaire from a large tenant, can start with the portal and the management plane and add the other layers later. Each layer is priced as part of the written proposal.
03 / Ports and plants
Ports, logistics and manufacturing estates
Port and plant businesses are built on exchange with outsiders: shipping lines, agents, hauliers, suppliers and regulators all reach into their systems. These are the parts a test of such a business tends to cover, with the service page for each.
Show details for Ports, logistics and manufacturing estates
Partner portals for bookings and releases
Booking, gate-pass, delivery-order and container-tracking portals are used by shipping lines, hauliers and agents who never meet the operator's IT team. The usual weak point is ownership: a logged-in agent changing a booking or container number and reading, or releasing, cargo that belongs to someone else.
EDI and partner message links
Manifests, invoices and status messages often travel over EDI, SFTP drops and newer APIs. A test checks the trust boundary of each link: whether a partner's credentials reach only that partner's data, and whether a forged or replayed message is accepted.
Warehouse management systems
Warehouse software decides what is in stock, what may leave and who signed for it. Abuse of it, such as editing quantities, approving a release without the right role or exporting a whole customer list, matters as much here as any classic injection flaw.
Where the office meets the plant
In a shipyard, steel plant or pharma unit, the manufacturing execution system and the plant network are often reachable from corporate IT in ways nobody planned. The test traces those routes from an ordinary office machine and reports each one with the rule or account that allowed it. Port, terminal and plant control systems themselves, such as SCADA, PLCs and HMIs, are not tested: the work covers the IT network and the point where it meets the plant.
Wi-Fi across yards, sheds and stores
Handheld scanners, crane and yard terminals and tablets in stores all ride on wireless networks that can stretch past the fence. Wireless testing has to be done within range of the access points, so it is always part of an on-site visit.
Desktop clients and tracking devices
Terminal, customs and ERP clients installed on office desktops can talk straight to a database. Connected trackers, telematics units and sensors carry firmware into the field, and IoT and firmware testing looks at the device, its firmware and the service it reports to.
For most operators the first test covers the partner portals and the internet edge, because that is where outsiders already have a login. The office network and the plant boundary come next.
04 / Government and education
Do you need a CERT-In empanelled auditor?
Government-adjacent and education buyers should settle one question before anything else: does a rule, a tender or a contract require a CERT-In empanelled auditor? The answer decides which firms can do the work at all.
Show details for Do you need a CERT-In empanelled auditor?
| Situation | Is an empanelled auditor needed? |
|---|---|
| A government department's website or application | Usually yes when it will be hosted on government infrastructure: hosting rules often ask for a security audit by a CERT-In empanelled auditor before it goes live. |
| A public tender or a public-sector contract | Only if the tender or contract requires one. Read the eligibility and technical clauses; some name an empanelled auditor and others ask for an independent test. |
| An entity regulated by SEBI, or another regulator with its own audit rule | For SEBI, yes: its cybersecurity framework requires the entities SEBI regulates to have their audits done by a CERT-In empanelled auditor. Other regulators set their own rules, so check the direction that applies. |
| A university or college's own systems | Not as a general rule. It depends on whether a funder, a hosting agreement or a tender sets one. |
| A private company's customer questionnaire, ISO 27001 or SOC 2 work | Not unless the requester names one. ISO 27001 and SOC 2 do not call for CERT-In empanelment. |
BERRY9 is not CERT-In empanelled. If your rule, tender or regulator requires an empanelled auditor, we say so during scoping, so that the money goes to a firm on CERT-In's list rather than into a test that cannot be used.
Where no such rule applies, education platforms have their own weak points, and these are what we look at:
- Sign-in boundaries in the learning management system, so a student account cannot reach staff or another student's work.
- The integrity of examination and results systems: who can see papers early, change marks or publish results.
- Vendor platforms shared between institutions, where one tenant's settings can expose another's data.
- Older systems that stay online long after anyone remembers them, such as admission portals from past years.
Ask whoever asked for the test, in writing, which kind of tester they will accept. A short written answer can save paying for a second test.

How the work reaches Visakhapatnam from Hyderabad
Our one office is in Hyderabad; there is no BERRY9 office, staff member or partner in Visakhapatnam. Of India's large IT cities, Hyderabad is the closest to Visakhapatnam, and the two share a language. An engagement follows the same five phases as every BERRY9 test.
Phase 1
Scope
Scoping fixes the systems in scope, the testing windows around shift changes and vessel or production schedules, who to phone if something looks wrong, and anything that must not be touched. The written proposal follows with the price and dates.
Phase 2
Reconnaissance
From Hyderabad we map what your organization exposes: domains, addresses, portals, login pages and the services behind them, including ones your team may have forgotten.
Phase 3
Vulnerability identification
Manual testing with automated help across the agreed scope, with every scanner result checked by an engineer before it counts as a finding.
Phase 4
Exploitation and risk analysis
Each confirmed weakness gets a working proof of concept, kept within the bounds agreed at scoping. Where two or three of them combine, the whole chain is written up as one path.
Phase 5
Reporting and remediation
The two reports and the remediation matrix, then a readout where the people fixing each item can question it.
What needs no visit
Portals, websites, mobile apps, APIs, cloud accounts and internet-facing addresses are tested over the internet. Internal networks and domains are reached through remote access you create for the test, such as a jump host or a VPN login with an ordinary employee's rights, which you can switch off afterward.
What needs someone on site
Wireless testing, plant networks with no remote path and devices installed at the site need a tester at your Visakhapatnam location. That visit is arranged during scoping. The journey to Vizag and the nights there are charged at cost, with the amount named in the proposal before work starts.
For a typical scope, testing and reporting take 5 to 10 working days from kickoff. A larger estate, such as several portals, a plant network and a wireless survey together, takes longer, and the proposal carries the schedule.
07 / Price
What VAPT costs in Visakhapatnam
There are two published starting prices, and GST at 18% is added to each. The one that fits turns on a single question: is the target a handful of assets reachable from the internet, or a system where users, partners and data sit behind a login?
Starter scope
Starts fromINR 9,000 + 18% GST
The starter scope is priced from INR 9,000 + 18% GST for small scopes such as 3 to 5 external IP addresses or a simple WordPress website, including a vulnerability scan, manual checks, a written report and one free retest.
Read the VAPT cost guideEvery other test
Starts fromINR 27,000 + 18% GST
Every other test starts from INR 27,000 + 18% GST: portals, APIs, internal networks, domains, cloud accounts, wireless and device work included.
Ask for a proposalA college's simple WordPress website, or 3 to 5 external IP addresses belonging to a freight forwarder, fits the starter scope. A booking portal with agent logins, a hosting platform or a plant network needs a standard engagement and its higher starting figure. Both are starting prices, and the proposal written after scoping gives the figure for your systems.
For Visakhapatnam scopes, four things usually move the figure:
Partners and roles
Every type of outside user, such as agents, hauliers, resellers or students, adds boundaries to test.
Tenants and segments
On a hosting platform, each customer network and management zone is more ground to cover.
Sites
A terminal, a warehouse and a head office on separate networks are tested as separate pieces.
Visits
Days at your premises, for wireless or plant work, appear in the proposal as their own line.
How a scope becomes a price for each kind of test is explained in the guide to VAPT cost in India.
The starting price for small scopes includes one free retest. For larger scopes, the retest terms are written into the proposal before work starts.

09 / Inquiry
Send the Visakhapatnam systems you want tested
Send the systems in scope, whether any of them sit at a terminal, warehouse or plant that would need a visit, whether a rule or tender names the kind of auditor, and when you need the report by. A scoping call then pins down the scope and the timeline.
To talk it through first, call +91 86868 92922 or write to contact@berry9.com.
10 / FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Short answers about scope, price and how testing works. For anything else, call +91 86868 92922.
Does BERRY9 have an address in Visakhapatnam?
No. Visakhapatnam clients are tested remotely from our one office, in Yellareddyguda, Hyderabad 500073, with a visit when the work needs one. To reach us, the number is +91 86868 92922 and the email address is contact@berry9.com.
Can you test a shipyard's or steel plant's office network without touching production?
Yes. The scope is agreed in writing before testing begins, so it can cover the office network, vendor remote access and the routes from the office toward plant systems while production systems stay out of it. What may be touched, and what is a hard stop, goes into the rules of engagement before any testing starts. Whether plant control systems are ever in scope is a separate decision made during scoping. See the section on Ports, logistics and manufacturing estates above.
Do government or university projects in Visakhapatnam need a CERT-In empanelled auditor?
Some do. A government website or application hosted on government infrastructure usually needs an audit by a CERT-In empanelled auditor, and a tender or regulator may require one. Many university and college systems have no such rule. BERRY9 is not CERT-In empanelled, so check the requirement in writing before you hire anyone. See the section on Do you need a CERT-In empanelled auditor? above.
Can you test a hosting platform that other customers share?
Yes, within limits. We test what the supplier owns and operates: the customer portal, the provisioning APIs, the management network and the separation between customer segments. A customer's own servers or virtual machines are tested only with that customer's written permission. See the section on Testing a hosting or data-center supplier above.
What should a port or logistics company test first?
Usually the partner portals and the internet-facing systems, because shipping lines, agents and hauliers already have logins there. A booking or release portal that lets one partner read or act on another partner's cargo is a common and serious finding. The office network, warehouse systems and Wi-Fi come next. See the section on Ports, logistics and manufacturing estates above.
How much does a penetration test cost for a Visakhapatnam business?
A small scope, for example a simple WordPress website or 3 to 5 external IP addresses, comes in from INR 9,000 + 18% GST. Portals, platforms, networks and anything larger begin from INR 27,000 + 18% GST, and a written proposal fixes the final figure once the scope is clear. See the section on What VAPT costs in Visakhapatnam above.
Is hiring a tester based in Hyderabad a problem for a Vizag company?
Rarely. Most tests run over the internet or through access you control, and the conversations can be held online. Location matters mainly for wireless testing, plant networks without remote access and devices installed at your site, and those visits are planned during scoping. The method, the report and a written price matter more than the address. See the section on How the work reaches Visakhapatnam from Hyderabad above.
Which documents does a penetration test leave us with?
An executive report in plain language, an engineering report with a proof of concept, a CVSS 3.1 score, reproduction steps and a fix for each finding, and a remediation matrix to track what is closed. A readout call lets your team ask about each finding. See the section on What the engagement delivers, and how to judge it in advance above.
