Industries we secure
BERRY9 tests the systems each sector depends on, from tenant boundaries in SaaS products to patient records, studio review portals and plant networks. The method is the same everywhere; what changes is where the scope starts and which compliance questions the report has to help answer.
01 / By sector
Sectors, their systems and the tests that fit
Each card lists the systems that usually matter most in that sector and the tests that cover them.
SaaS and technology
Multi-tenant applications where one customer must never reach another's data, single sign-on and user provisioning (SSO and SCIM), admin consoles, and the webhooks and integrations that connect the product to other services.
Tests that fit: web app test, API test, cloud account review, code review and DevSecOps pipeline work.
Fintech and finance
Payment, lending and collection apps, customer account dashboards, the APIs exchanged with banks and partners, and the back-office tools staff use to approve or move money.
Tests that fit: web app test, mobile app test, API test and network test.
Healthcare
Who may open which electronic health record, telemedicine sessions, lab results shared as files, billing run by third parties, medical devices on the hospital network, and patient data that has drifted into systems nobody tracks.
Tests that fit: web app test, mobile app test, API test, network test and IoT and firmware test.
Pharmaceutical and life sciences
ERP systems that partners can reach, sprawling supplier and vendor portals, whether manufacturing systems are kept apart from the office network, and the audit trails that must stay intact for GxP work.
Tests that fit: network test, Active Directory test, web app test and code review.
Media and VFX studios
Review portals where clients watch unreleased work, project and asset shares that must stay separate from one production to the next, vendor and freelancer access, and the studio network behind them.
Tests that fit: web app test, network test, Wi-Fi test and social engineering exercise.
Studios preparing for a content security assessment can read the TPN Gold Shield security assessment page.
Manufacturing and logistics
The boundary between the corporate network and plant systems such as SCADA and MES, EDI links that trading partners trust, and warehouse management software.
Tests that fit: network test, Active Directory test, Wi-Fi test, IoT and firmware test and thick-client test.
BERRY9 tests the corporate network and its boundary with the plant; industrial controllers such as PLCs, HMIs and SCADA are outside the scope.
Education
Sign-in to learning management systems, online exam platforms and their integrity, student records, settings shared across tenants at an LMS vendor, and older software that stays in service for years.
Tests that fit: web app test, mobile app test, API test and network test.
Enterprise IT, BPO and KPO
Internal networks and Active Directory, VPN gateways, desktop applications that staff run all day, portals that vendors log in to, and how employees respond to phishing.
Tests that fit: network test, Active Directory test, thick-client test, social engineering exercise, red team exercise and training for your staff.
Retail and e-commerce
Storefronts and checkout, customer accounts and saved addresses, shopping apps on Android and iOS, and the payment and delivery partners those apps call.
Tests that fit: web app test, mobile app test and API test.
02 / Sector pages
Sector pages in more detail
Four sectors have a page of their own, with the flaws we look for, how the engagement runs and what to prepare.
SaaS companies
Tenant isolation, single sign-on, APIs, webhooks and the cloud account behind a multi-tenant product.
Fintech companies
Transaction logic, onboarding and KYC, mobile apps, partner APIs and back-office approvals.
Healthcare and healthtech
Patient records and access, portals, laboratory and billing integrations and the hospital network.
E-commerce companies
Checkout and coupon logic, account takeover, payment callbacks, seller portals and plugins.
03 / Compliance
Compliance questions by sector
Regulations and customer reviews often decide when a test happens. The table shows where the question usually comes from in each sector.
| Sector | What often prompts the question | Where to read more |
|---|---|---|
| SaaS and technology | Enterprise customers' security questionnaires, and the company's own work toward a SOC 2 report or ISO 27001 certification | SOC 2 testing and ISO 27001 testing |
| Fintech and finance | Card data: PCI DSS 4.x expects external and internal penetration tests under its requirement 11.4, and banks or partners may ask for test evidence as well | PCI DSS testing |
| Healthcare | India's DPDP Act covers patient records as personal data, and healthtech teams with US customers are often asked about HIPAA | DPDP Act testing and HIPAA testing |
| Pharmaceutical and life sciences | GxP expectations that electronic records and audit trails stay complete and accurate, and ISO 27001 programs | ISO 27001 testing |
| Media and VFX studios | Content security assessments that the studios you work for may ask you to complete | TPN Gold Shield security assessment |
| Manufacturing and logistics | Supplier security reviews from large customers, and ISO 27001 programs | ISO 27001 testing |
| Education | The DPDP Act treats student records as personal data and adds duties for data about children | DPDP Act testing |
| Enterprise IT, BPO and KPO | Audits by the clients whose work and data you handle, and ISO 27001 programs | ISO 27001 testing |
| Retail and e-commerce | Card payments bring PCI DSS into the picture, and customer accounts hold personal data covered by the DPDP Act | PCI DSS testing and DPDP Act testing |
SOC 2 does not require a penetration test. Its criteria ask for controls that find and manage vulnerabilities, penetration testing is one common way to show that, and your auditor decides what evidence is enough. For every framework in the table, a test report is evidence your auditor or assessor weighs; the verdict stays with them.
04 / Method
Same method, a different starting point
The way a test runs does not change with the sector: every engagement goes through the same five-phase method and ends in the same pair of reports. What changes is the scoping conversation. A SaaS scope usually starts with tenant isolation and the admin console, a hospital scope with who can reach patient records, a studio scope with the review portal and the shares behind it, and a plant scope with the line between office and production networks.
Severity follows the same logic: it starts from a CVSS 3.1 base score per finding, which is then weighed against what the system holds in your sector, so a flaw that exposes exam answers or a patient's lab result is rated by what it would mean for you, not by a generic table.
05 / Other sectors
If your sector is not listed
A sector missing from this page is not a sector we avoid. If your systems are web applications, mobile apps, APIs, networks, cloud accounts or devices, the tests above apply to them; tell us on the contact page what you need to protect and we will suggest a scope. Every test, with its starting price, is on the offensive security services page.
This page names no clients. The organizations that have worked with BERRY9 are listed on the clients page.
Plan your next security test
Tell us what needs testing and when you need it done, and we will propose a scope and timeline. We respond within 24 hours. If you would rather talk first, call or write to us.
