Active Directory penetration testing in Vijayawada

One Windows domain, built up over years by whoever was available, usually holds a Vijayawada college, hospital group or software house together. We chart how a plain account could rise to domain administrator, from Hyderabad, and draw every step.

01 / Local need

Why Vijayawada institutions test Active Directory

A single domain, many roles and many years of exceptions make it the key to everything.

A college runs staff, lab and library machines on one domain, with student lab accounts mixed in. A hospital group has clinical, billing and administrative users on the same directory, and a diagnostic lab chain adds collection-center PCs. A software house keeps developer and client accounts together. In all three the domain controller holds every password hash, so an attacker who reaches it can read mail, open every file server and switch off security tools.

The way in is usually small: a phishing message to one administrative employee, a shared lab password, or a forgotten account from a former teacher. Our test starts at that kind of position and shows how far it goes. Because the IT team is often one or two people, the engineering report ranks fixes by how many routes each closes and marks the ones that need no downtime. The technique is laid out on our Active Directory penetration testing page; the Vijayawada buying context is on VAPT services in Vijayawada.

Student lab accounts deserve a word. When hundreds of student logins share a domain with staff, a single misconfigured group or a reused lab password can turn a student into an insider. We test that boundary specifically, since it is the one that colleges most often assume is safe.

02 / Scope

Directory setups we test most often in Vijayawada

Six setups account for most identity work in the city.

  • College domains with student labs

Student, staff and lab accounts on one domain. We test whether a student or lab login can reach staff systems or administrator groups.

  • Hospital and lab-chain directories

Clinical, billing and collection-center users together. We test which accounts reach clinical servers and how a front-desk login could travel.

  • Software-house directories

Developers and client accounts on the same domain. We test how client work is separated and which accounts hold broad rights.

  • Shared lab and office logins

Generic accounts used by many people. We check what they reach, whether they ever expire and how far one shared password would carry an intruder.

  • Service accounts for ERP and billing

Accounts set up by vendors with broad rights. We test their protection and whether their credentials can be recovered.

  • Accounts of people who have left

Former teachers, staff and contractors. We find which logins still work and what they can reach.

03 / From our guide

From our guide: roasting without a password and abusing permissions

Two further routes are common in small estates: accounts that skip Kerberos pre-authentication, and over-broad permissions on directory objects. This is how our guide explains them.

AS-REP Roasting

Accounts with Kerberos pre-authentication disabled emit a TGT encrypted with the user's password hash without any authentication required. Anyone on the network can request one and crack offline.

Fix: Enable pre-authentication on every account. There is no legitimate reason to have it disabled in 2026.

ACL abuse and ADCS

BloodHound finds these for you. A regular user with GenericWrite on a privileged group, or with the right to write to a GPO that applies to domain controllers, is one step from domain admin. ADCS misconfigurations (ESC1 to ESC8) provide a parallel path: a certificate obtained through a weak template can be used to authenticate as another user, including a domain admin.

See network penetration testing; the Active Directory test goes deeper into this one.

Both are found by reading the directory, so a small team can also check for them without running an attack. The remaining routes, Kerberoasting and delegation, are in the whole directory-attacks article.

04 / What we find

What usually goes wrong in Vijayawada directories

Single-domain estates with small IT teams show the same few faults.

Show details for What usually goes wrong in Vijayawada directories
  • A lab login that reaches staff systems. A student or lab account placed in a group that grants access to a staff share or server.
  • One password for many machines. A local administrator password reused on every lab or collection-center PC.
  • Accounts without pre-authentication. Logins whose hashes can be requested and cracked offline without a password.
  • Generous permissions on objects. A group that can reset passwords or change group membership for accounts it should not control.
  • Former staff still enabled. Teachers, doctors and contractors who left long ago but can still log in.
  • No alert on privileged changes. A new domain administrator that nobody is told about.

The report lists housekeeping fixes first, because disabling stale accounts and removing needless group members costs nothing and closes real routes the same day.

Lab machines deserve their own attention. In a college, hundreds of student logins and a handful of staff accounts share one domain, and lab PCs are re-imaged only at the start of a term, so a password cached on a lab machine in July can still be there in March. We check which cached credentials a student could harvest on a lab PC and whether any belong to an account with wider rights, because that single path turns an ordinary class into an insider foothold.

05 / Rules and customers

What drives Active Directory testing for Vijayawada institutions

Boards, departments and insurers all ask who can reach what.

A tender may set the auditor and the standard, and board members or hospital owners ask whether a student or a stolen password could reach records. Student and patient records behind the directory are covered by the data protection law of 2023, with working rules arriving in 2027; DPDP Act testing shows where we fit.

As our article on the year's threats shows, identity heads the 2026 picture; the report also tells you which of our actions your logs captured.

06 / How it runs

How a directory test fits a Vijayawada institution

We begin as an ordinary user, and for a college we also begin as a student.

Show details for How a directory test fits a Vijayawada institution
  1. Before day 1

    Starting positions

A call checks whether a tender rule applies, lists domains and agrees where we start, as an ordinary employee and, for a college, as a student lab user, entering by VPN login or by a connected device.

  2. Day 1

    Accounts and written limits

The starting accounts are created and our addresses admitted. In writing we fix the limits on any administrator rights we reach, and we name clinical and exam systems as untouchable.

  3. Days 2 to 7

    Charting the climb

Accounts, groups, permissions and trusts are charted and the weak points joined into routes toward domain administrator; serious exposure is reported on the day.

07 / Questions to ask

What a college or hospital should ask a directory tester

Institutions with student or patient systems need extra assurances.

  • Will you test from a student lab account as well as an employee account?
  • How will you make sure clinical and examination systems are never touched?
  • What limits apply if you reach administrator rights?
  • Can the report list which of your steps our logs recorded?
  • Will the fix list start with the changes that need no downtime?

08 / Delivery

Delivery of directory tests to Vijayawada institutions

Where the work happens

Testing is run from our office in Yellareddyguda, Hyderabad, which is our only office. Outside Hyderabad nothing about these tests needs us in your building; if a customer or a site rule asks for someone present, we come by arrangement and write the travel cost into the proposal.

What you receive

One report is written for management, customers and auditors, and a second, more technical one for the engineers who make the fixes. A walkthrough call covers both, and after your fixes we retest and mark each finding closed or open. Every inquiry gets a reply: we respond within 24 hours.

How to prepare

Test accounts, a staging address, our testing addresses allowed through your firewall and a named contact are what we ask for. The preparation article explains each item, and the one-page checklist (PDF) is a printable version.

If a tender names an auditor

If a tender, department or contract requires an auditor from CERT-In's panel, tell us before we scope the work. BERRY9 is not on that panel, and we would rather say so now than let you find out later. For buyers without that requirement the method and the report are the same. Our article on whether you need such an auditor explains how to read a requirement.

09 / Price

What directory testing costs in Vijayawada

Directory testing starts in the standard band at from INR 27,000 + 18% GST, and domains, sites and estate size settle the final figure. A single proposal can bundle it with an internal network test. The VAPT cost guide lists the factors.

The starting price for small scopes includes one free retest. For larger scopes, the retest terms are written into the proposal before work starts.

10 / FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about scope, price and how testing works. For anything else, call +91 86868 92922.

Will you test whether a student account can reach staff systems?

Yes, for colleges it is a central test. We start from a student lab account and see whether it can reach staff shares, servers or privileged groups. See the section on Directory setups we test most often in Vijayawada above.

Do you touch examination or clinical systems?

No. They are named as off limits in the written rules, and nothing in the test is allowed to affect them. See the section on How a directory test fits a Vijayawada institution above.

Our domain is run by one person. Is the report usable?

Yes. Fixes are ranked by routes closed, and the ones that need no downtime come first, so one person can begin at once. See the section on What usually goes wrong in Vijayawada directories above.

How much time should a college allow for a directory test?

Allow time for the domains and labs in scope; the dates are fixed in the proposal after scoping. See the section on What directory testing costs in Vijayawada above.

Will you change anything in our directory?

Only what a proof requires, agreed beforehand, logged and reversed. Live data is never altered. See the section on What a college or hospital should ask a directory tester above.

What would directory testing cost us?

Plan on a start from INR 27,000 + 18% GST, rising with domains, sites and estate size. See the section on What directory testing costs in Vijayawada above.
