API security testing in Coimbatore

Behind a Coimbatore factory's ERP sit connectors to customers' order systems, tax and e-invoicing services, couriers and the gateways that report what the machines are doing. We test those interfaces from Hyderabad, signed in and signed out, and start by listing the ones your team has stopped thinking about.

01 / Local need

Why Coimbatore manufacturers need their APIs tested

As plants connect to customers and to their own machines, the interfaces multiply faster than the documentation.

A textile exporter receives purchase orders from a buyer's system and sends back advance shipping notices. A component supplier connects its ERP to a customer's supplier platform. A pump maker's service team reads data from connected machines through a gateway, and the finance team's ERP talks to e-invoicing and courier services. Each connection was set up to solve a problem, usually by an implementation partner, and each can answer requests from outside the plant.

The people who know how a connector was configured are often at the implementation partner, not in the company, so scoping starts with finding out who that is. We then list hosts, credentials and message flows, and decide which to test first. The method is described on the API security testing page, and VAPT services in Coimbatore covers the local buyer's questions.

Because machine and ERP interfaces were often designed for a closed network, they sometimes carry assumptions that no longer hold once the plant is connected: that every caller is a colleague, that nobody sends malformed data, that nobody calls more than a few times a minute. Testing is how those assumptions are checked, one at a time, against the interfaces you actually run rather than the ones in the diagram, and the answers are usually less comfortable than the diagram suggested.

02 / Scope

Interfaces we meet most often in Coimbatore estates

Six kinds of connection cover most of the API work here.

  • Customer order and EDI interfaces

Purchase orders in, shipping notices out. Authentication, tampering and the receiver's handling of a damaged or repeated order are all examined.

  • E-invoicing and tax connectors

ERP links to tax and e-invoicing services carry credentials and invoice data. We test how they are stored, who can trigger a call and what a failed call reveals.

  • Machine and sensor gateways

Gateways that publish production and fault data. We test who can read the feed, whether commands can be sent back and how the gateway authenticates its callers.

  • Supplier and dealer platform links

Interfaces to portals your customers run. We test what your side exposes to them and what is returned beyond what they need.

  • Courier and logistics integrations

Booking and tracking calls with courier services. We check keys, callbacks and the limits on lookups.

  • ERP extension and reporting APIs

Custom endpoints added by an implementation partner for reports and mobile apps. We test who may call them and what they return.

03 / From our guide

From our guide: signatures and replay on incoming messages

Order messages, payment confirmations and machine callbacks all rely on the receiver checking who sent them and whether they were sent before. This is how our guide explains both checks.

Signature verification

Every reputable webhook provider signs the payload. Stripe uses HMAC-SHA256 with a per-customer signing secret. GitHub uses HMAC-SHA1 (and HMAC-SHA256 in newer versions). Twilio uses HMAC-SHA1 over the URL plus form parameters. Verify the signature on every incoming webhook. Skipping verification means anyone who can guess your endpoint can fire fake webhooks.

// Pseudocode
const expected = hmac_sha256(secret, raw_body);
if (!timing_safe_equal(expected, request.headers["x-signature"])) {
  reject();
}

Replay defense

Even with signature verification, an attacker who captures a webhook (via SSRF, log access, etc) can replay it. Defenses: include a timestamp in the signed payload and reject anything older than N minutes; track recently-seen idempotency IDs in a cache and reject duplicates.

For an ERP that acts on a customer's order the moment it arrives, these two checks decide whether a forged or repeated message can cost money. Outgoing messages and the common mistakes are covered in our webhook security article.

04 / What we find

Patterns we expect in Coimbatore ERP and machine interfaces

Connectors built for a closed network share a few habits.

Show details for Patterns we expect in Coimbatore ERP and machine interfaces
  • Credentials in plain configuration. Keys and passwords for tax, courier and customer services kept in files that anyone with ERP access can read.
  • Orders accepted from anyone who can reach them. An order endpoint that trusts the sender's address and checks no signature.
  • Machine data readable by everyone. A gateway that publishes production figures and fault codes without authentication.
  • Commands that travel both ways. A gateway that can also write settings to a machine, protected by nothing but a network rule.
  • Repeated messages processed twice. An invoice or order that is created again when the same message arrives a second time.
  • Debug routes left by an implementation partner. Test endpoints and verbose errors that were never removed.

None of this is exotic. It is what a system looks like when it was made to work first and secured later, and the report puts the fixes in the order that removes the most exposure for the least change.

05 / Rules and customers

What drives API testing for Coimbatore manufacturers

Customers, certificates and a growing number of connected machines all point at the same interfaces.

Export customers ask how data exchanged with their systems is protected, and auditors working toward ISO 27001 want evidence that interfaces which carry business data have been tested. Feeds that move personal details, such as payroll exports, fall under India's DPDP Act from 2027, as our DPDP checklist explains.

The reference most partners recognize is the OWASP API Security Top 10, still in its 2023 edition in November 2026, and our walk-through explains each entry. Industrial controllers themselves are outside our scope; we test the IT side of the gateway.

06 / How it runs

How an API test fits a Coimbatore plant's integration estate

Implementation partners are part of the process, so we bring them in early.

Show details for How an API test fits a Coimbatore plant's integration estate
  1. Before day 1

    Finding the partner who knows

We ask who configured each connector, invite that person to the scoping call, and list hosts, credentials and message flows, marking what should be retired.

  2. Day 1

    Test credentials and sample messages

You provide a test credential for each connection type and sample messages for orders and invoices. We confirm they work and share the addresses our traffic will use.

  3. Days 2 to 7

Sending what a hostile caller would

We replay, alter and repeat messages, call interfaces without credentials and with the wrong ones, and report anything serious the same day.

    OutputMessages that reproduce each finding

07 / Questions to ask

Questions for an API tester serving a manufacturer

Factory interfaces need a tester who is comfortable with older formats.

  • Can you test EDI-style order messages and file exchanges, as well as web APIs?
  • How will you test our machine gateway without sending commands to a machine?
  • Will you check where connector credentials are stored?
  • How do you handle an implementation partner who built the interface?
  • Will the report rank fixes by how much exposure each one removes?

08 / Delivery

Delivery of API tests to Coimbatore plants

Where the work happens

Testing is run from our office in Yellareddyguda, Hyderabad, which is our only office. Outside Hyderabad nothing about these tests needs us in your building; if a customer or a site rule asks for someone present, we come by arrangement and write the travel cost into the proposal.

What you receive

One report is written for management, customers and auditors, and a second, more technical one for the engineers who make the fixes. A walkthrough call covers both, and after your fixes we retest and mark each finding closed or open. Every inquiry gets a reply: we respond within 24 hours.

How to prepare

Test accounts, a staging address, our testing addresses allowed through your firewall and a named contact are what we ask for. The preparation article explains each item, and the one-page checklist (PDF) is a printable version.

09 / Price

What API testing costs a Coimbatore manufacturer

An API test follows the number of interfaces, credential types and environments, and it begins from INR 27,000 + 18% GST. One ERP connector costs less to examine than a plant with customer links, machine gateways, courier and tax integrations, and the proposal fixes the figure in writing. The API testing cost guide explains the factors.

The starting price for small scopes includes one free retest. For larger scopes, the retest terms are written into the proposal before work starts.

10 / FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about scope, price and how testing works. For anything else, call +91 86868 92922.

Will you send commands to our machines?

No. We test the IT side of the gateway: who can read its feed, whether commands could be accepted from the wrong caller, and how it authenticates. We do not operate machines. See the section on Interfaces we meet most often in Coimbatore estates above.

Can you test interfaces that our ERP partner built?

Yes, once you and the partner have both agreed in writing. They provide access and make fixes, and we report to you. See the section on Questions for an API tester serving a manufacturer above.

Do you test e-invoicing and tax connectors?

Yes. We check how credentials are stored, who can trigger a call and what a failed call reveals, using test credentials where the service offers them. See the section on Interfaces we meet most often in Coimbatore estates above.

Which message checks matter most for orders?

Whether the sender is verified and whether a repeated message is rejected. Those two decide if a forged or duplicated order can cost money. See the section on From our guide: signatures and replay on incoming messages above.

Do you test industrial controllers?

No. Controllers of every kind, including PLCs, HMIs and SCADA, stay outside our scope; the IT interfaces around them are what we test. See the section on What drives API testing for Coimbatore manufacturers above.

What should we budget?

An API test begins from INR 27,000 + 18% GST, with interfaces, credential types and environments deciding the rest. See the section on What API testing costs a Coimbatore manufacturer above.
